It’s National Sex Toy Day!

Yes, it's a real thing!

Today is the day we get to celebrate and show some appreciation for the sex toys in our lives! Sex toys have been around for 30,000 plus years! They seem to be older than our current civilization, before the mothafuckin’ wheel, and even before the ideology of matrimony. They aren't anything new, however the technology and materials have sure gotten an upgrade! As we advanced in society with our creativity and technology so did our sex lives. We enhance our lives in a million ways and enhancing our sex life with these amazing products is no different. We’ve come a long way and I am SO here for it! They will never replace a partner, they are simply amazing additions. Teamwork makes the dream work and sex toys are on our team! Pleasure is a wonderful thing that should be embraced not shamed. Switching the focus to pleasure based sex rather than just orgasm based sex opens up a whole new world. You can still experience immense pleasure without ever having an orgasm. No pressure, just pleasure.

It wasn't always like this, they weren't this readily available and accessible. We still have a long ass way to go for total acceptance of sex toys. Manufacturers, companies, and boutiques still have to deal with the censorship and shadow banning on social platforms as well as marketing restrictions. With all that being said, I still think we are living in a sexual revolution, there has never been (to our knowledge) this many pleasure products, Sex Educators, Sex Therapists, Sex Coaches, or resources available to us! So there's no excuse, you just gotta actively look for what you are seeking.

There's literally hundreds of thousands of sex toys on the market, which means there’s one or 10 out there for everyone! They are great for our mental, physical, and sexual well being. Sex Toys are a wonderful way to explore and get to know our body. They create new experiences, stimulate new senses, and allow for stimulation in ways never thought of. Not only ALL of that but they welcome new intimate relationship conversations and allow you to express yourself and your pleasure to and with your partner(s). I highly encourage sexual relationship exploration and trying new things because it leads to a more fulfilling sex life. Communication beforehand for boundaries is always a must when discussing anything sexual. And as for after usage, it's always great to discuss and ask for feedback to determine whether or not to keep using or move on to another product. I will say that like everything else in life, you won’t like every sex toy that you try out, and for those moments, don’t give up or get frustrated, sometimes it takes a few tries to find the perfect one.

Hooray for the teamwork of Sex and Tech because we now have music controlled vibes, Bluetooth and APP capability products which are great for long distance relationships, and remote controlled devices to spice up date nights and allow for easier use when wearing a product. Sex Toys are also now rechargeable with longer battery life which is wonderful so you’re not fumbling around with batteries. There’s some items on the market that have automated suction, so a person can place the product on the desired area and it will go to town without the user having to move a finger! Talk about a hands free nut! And to top things off, there’s now virtual reality porn, where you can wear goggles and it feels like you are actually there! Up close and personal! Whew! A.I Sex Dolls are a hot commodity and topic right now! The sales of them have sky rocketed over the last few years. They are totally customizable now and can talk back and respond to the owner.  I can’t wait to see where all of this technology takes us!

You don’t have to spend a fortune on a great toy, there’s plenty of great sex toys that are wallet friendly. Just make sure you are buying them from a reliable source and you know what they are made of because not all sex toys are made equally. This industry does not have any standards, so it's important to be your own health and pleasure advocate. 

Never had one? Don't know where to start? I suggest you go to a sex toy store and take a look around or browse an online boutique to get a feel for what’s out here. The main things you should think about when looking for sex toys are the size (because yes, size can and does matter), the material in which the item is made of, the shape and function of the product, and which features are important to you such as rechargeability, waterproofing, APP capabilities, and/or A.I technology.

And always remember to clean your toys before and after you use them. Dust and Lint can get on them depending on where you are storing it. You can use a mild soap and water, wipes, toy cleaner, the dishwasher, or boil them.

Some new great shows to watch are “Sex, Love and Goop” and “Sex Unzipped” on Netflix. Both of these shows explain sex and sex toys in a way that many have never seen or heard of before. There are amazing educators in these shows that show you a behind the scenes look at how talking to someone really helps and that we have sooo much to discover within ourselves.

If you are interested in reading some books I also recommend “Vibrator Nation,” “Oh Joy, Sex Toy,” and “Sex Tech Revolution.” These books get detailed with the industry and its projections, they show and tell you about different toys, as well as give back story and history on sex toys.
