New Year, New Sexual Goals: Let’s Start Having Rich Sex!

Ah, the New Year—that time when we dust off our planners, set ambitious goals, and vow to drink more water (again). But let’s be honest: most resolutions don’t survive past February. So, what if this year we made resolutions that are not only achievable but downright enjoyable? Yes—I’m talking about setting sexual goals. Invest in your pleasure.

Investing in your sexual wellness is just as important as focusing on physical fitness, career milestones, or self-care routines. Sexual health and satisfaction impact your overall well-being, relationships, and even your confidence. So, why not make 2025 the year you prioritize pleasure?

Why Set Sexual Goals?

Your sexuality is an integral part of who you are. By setting goals in this area, you can:

  1. Improve Your Confidence: Understanding your desires and boundaries empowers you to communicate effectively, leading to more fulfilling experiences.

  2. Strengthen Relationships: Prioritizing intimacy and connection fosters deeper emotional bonds with your partner(s).

  3. Enhance Wellness: Sexual activity has proven health benefits, from stress relief to improved heart health—and let’s not forget the joy and pleasure factors!

  4. Foster Self-Discovery: Taking time to explore your body and desires can be a journey of personal growth and empowerment. If you don’t know what pleases you, how can you express it to your partner(s)?

Setting Fun and Achievable Sexual Goals

If you’re wondering where to start, here are some ideas to inspire your list:

  1. Learn Something New: Take a class on tantra, read books about sexual wellness, or explore new techniques that pique your curiosity.

    • Example Goal: "Read one book about enhancing intimacy by the end of March." My recommendation is ‘Come As You Are” by Emily Nagoski, Ph.D.

  2. Communicate Openly: Practice discussing your needs, boundaries, and fantasies with your partner(s) without fear of judgment. Writing or journaling can help you express and get your thoughts in order before you have conversations with your partner(s).

    • Example Goal: "Have a weekly check-in with my partner to discuss our intimacy."

  3. Prioritize Pleasure: Focus on what feels good for YOU, this is the important part. Sex is something that is done together, not something that happens to you or that you just endure—whether that means exploring new sensations, investing in toys, or simply making time for yourself.

    • Example Goal: "Schedule solo pleasure time twice a week to relax and recharge."

  4. Create a Bedroom Sanctuary: Transform your space into an inviting, stress-free zone that encourages intimacy. Build your own sex room!

    • Example Goal: "Upgrade your bedding and add candles or soft lighting for a cozy vibe."

  5. Expand Your Horizons: Step out of your comfort zone—try a new position, role-play, or incorporate sensual massages into your routine.

    • Example Goal: "Try one new thing in the bedroom every month."

Tips to Stick With Your Goals

Setting goals is one thing; keeping them is another. Here’s how to stay on track:

  • Start Small: Don’t overwhelm yourself with too many resolutions. Focus on 1-3 goals that excite you. Focus on your sexual strengths.

  • Celebrate Wins: Every step toward your goal is progress. Reward yourself along the way. What made you feel confident and/or empowered?

  • Stay Curious: Remember, this is a journey of discovery—there’s no “perfect” destination. This is not a sprint, this is a slow and steady marathon.

  • Seek Support: Whether it’s a partner, a community, or a coach, having someone to guide and encourage you can make all the difference.
